I bought this lens because I wanted two things: a step up in quality from my Sony 28-70mm kit lens and a greater focal range for travel. Although this lens adds quite some weight to your bag, the results are worth it.
I wouldn’t call it a lens for the street as it is hard to be discreet with a lens of this size attached to your little Sony body (mine is an A7 II) but it is versatile. Wide enough for general city and architectural shots, it covers portrait ranges and it gives you a little bit of telephoto for closer detail.
- Lens – Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS
- Sony Alpha A7 Digital Camera – Appalling lens quality
- Sony Alpha A7S Mark II – An available light photographer’s first choice
The fixed f4 is useful. We would all like f2.8 but that’s going to cost you twice as much as this lens. f4 is plenty. I carry a 50mm f1.8 when I want more light and a bit more bokeh. Seems to work for me.
Great versatile lens
Good lens if youre looking for something reasonably priced to take sharp photos. I was debating on getting the GM 24-70 2.8 but it was wayyyy too bulky and much pricier. I chose to get this paired with a good prime instead.
Sony 24-105mm f/4
I have a Sony A7III and rented a few lenses to try and figure out what I wanted to purchase. I used this lens and found that it was a great all -aroundlens. I am not a professional photographer just enjoy taking pictures, so this is a perspective from atypical dude.
There are prime lenses that may provide a better picture but this lens does a great job at taking portraits to landscapes. The pros of this lens are that you only need one lens thus less weight versus multiple lenses and extra weight.
